Organo Gold Product Line

What is Organo Gold?

Organo Gold is a company selling a variety of  health food products, but their main selling point is their coffee, which they claim to be enriched with Ganoderma Lucidum, a specific type of mushroom extract. Now there are countless allegation towards this company that puts the validity of their product claims under fire, but for the sake of argument, let’s just focus on the main ingredient for now.

Ganoderma Lucidum

Also known as the Lingzhi Mushroom, Ganoderma Lucidum is nothing new and has been used in traditional eastern medicine for centuries. In addition to the anecdotal evidence collected over a vast period of time, this humble little mushroom has been proven in the scientific literature to be one of the only over-the-counter substances available that has genuine anti-cancer effects.

It has solid evidence towards its anti-cancer effect, achieved by both strengthening the immune system while it is weak and helping regulate it down when it becomes overstimulated. On top of this it also has proven anti-oxidation effects, and can aid in the treatment and/or prevention of prostate cancer, breast cancer, insulin resistance, fatigue syndrome, hepatitis, and much more.

Apart from this main ingredient the majority of the other supplement ingredients claimed to be present in this product are non-active and are your run of the mill coffee beans which have been processed and repackaged.

Is Organo Gold a Multi-Level Marketing Scam?

This is the real kicker with this product, regardless of its ingredients. Even though Organo Gold markets to its consumers as a health and wellness product company, it is in actuality (as stated on their website) a “Global Network Marketing” company. They use what is commonly referred to as multi-level marketing to expand their outreach. This is something that used to be considered unethical business practice but is now much more commonly used. However, Organo Gold takes it a step further and has multiple allegations of exploitation towards both their distributors and customers, as well as many counts of unethical business practices.

The accusations against the company itself are many and include:

  • The majority of the reviews of the product online being written by distributors and therefore being false
  • The BBB (Better Business Bureau) has listed over 39 complaints about the company thus far based on unethical business practice, including things like:
    • credit card fraud
    • unethical business practice
    • negative side effects of the products (covered later on)

This seems to be a company that focuses more on scamming their distributors and consumers for the sake of making a profit as opposed to being dedicated to providing a quality product for the benefit of their customers.

The Pros

If the products of the company really do contain the Ganoderma Lucidum mushroom in significant enough quantities to have the expected health benefits, then that would be the greatest highlight of their products. However, as we are about to find out, this may not be the case even in the slightest.

The Cons

As was mentioned above, many of the reviews that can be found online for this product are allegedly untrue. On top of this, the negative reviews that are out there are very negative indeed and suggest the the company is adding something to their products that is not on the label, or might even be adding unsafe quantities of Ganoderma Lucidum into their product line.

Also, even though ganoderma has its fair share of benefits, it’s not without a few dangers as well. Common side effects include an upset stomach, nosebleeds, dry mouth and dizziness, dry throat, itching, nausea and vomiting. It is also to be used with caution in breastfeeding women. First hand accounts of the product also state complaints about palpitations, fatigue, and feelings of general discomfort, which are all things that ganoderma is supposed to help prevent!

Probably the most worrying factor of all is the increased bleeding risk associated with long term use of ganoderma. On top of this, it can interact with a variety of medications, with possible toxic and dangerous effects, something the company does not warn its consumers or distributors about to any extent.

The Verdict

This one doesn’t take much thought to figure out. Organs Gold seems to be an unethical company providing an ineffective and possibly harmful product, while financially exploiting their own distributors. We simply can’t recommend this on nutritional or ethical grounds.
